Why NAC?

Sport

IMG_6183Regular participation in physical activity is associated with a range of physical and mental health benefits both in childhood and adulthood. Active children become healthy adults and schools play a key role in contributing to that outcome.

Sport is a valued part of the school’s curriculum and is an integral part of a child’s development. It requires physical involvement in organised games or activities within an accepted set of rules.

IMG_0826Our program at Nowra Anglican College Sports  includes inter and intra-school competitive sport, outdoor recreational or adventure sports, fitness, sport development and physical recreation activities. The range of activities is immense, from the traditional and popular sports such as cricket, rugby, basketball, netball, athletics and swimming, to the newer favourites such as surfing skateboarding, weight training, golf and lawn bowls.

IMG_4736 smlSchool sport provides a vehicle for learning a number of skills – physical, emotional and moral. Students are encouraged to participate in a way that suits their interests and abilities. During school sport students will develop a variety of skills that will equip them for lifelong participation in regular sport and recreation activities. Students at Nowra Anglican College are able to select from an extensive range of team and recreational sports.   Participation in sport plays a vital part of the student’s school experience and life helping to:

  • Foster teamwork;
  • Build relationships;
  • Boost confidence
  • Improve alertness and the ability to concentrate on mental tasks;
  • Relieve and reduce stress which often increases through the senior school years and life in general; and
  • Improve and maintain our health status.

Sport is compulsory for every student in Years 7-11 and optional for Year 12 students.

Senior School sport runs on Wednesdays in periods 1 and 2.  Accordingly, sport uniform is worn to College each Wednesday.

Sport Choices

Sport outdoor recreation and physical activity are all valuable aspects of an individual’s life and therefore every student in the senior school is given the right and opportunity to participate in the College’s Sport program (optional in HSC years).  Nowra Anglican College sport program is arguably the most extensive in the Shoalhaven and Illawarra areas, offering students a wide and varied range (over 30 choices) of recreational activities and team/individual sports both at a competitive and non competitive level.  Each year we hope to improve on what we offer.

Below is a list of the sports and recreational activities which are offered to our students in our Wednesday sport program.  Sports running are dependant on the season of the year and the number of students interested.  The majority of these sports students have the opportunity to compete in and represent our College. The College is a member of Christian Sporting Schools Association (CSSA) and Southern Anglican Sporting Schools Association (SASSA) and these organisations provide the pathway to state and national representation.
