Changes to Uniforms

Independent schools place a lot of value on how we wear our uniform — and what uniform we wear. School uniform should reflect the wishes of our school community. It should also be stylish, comfortable, durable and affordable. When our students present well in the community, by wearing their uniforms correctly, both the school and its students gain integrity and a high reputation.

Starting in 2019

New uniform items can be worn from Term 1, 2019. We will send an SMS message to families when they are available for sale at the uniform shop. If you have any questions about uniform-related issues, please contact the office on 02 4421 7711 or office@nac.nsw.edu.au.

What’s changing?

Our recent review of the NAC school uniform, with a specific focus on girls’ uniforms, has been in consultation with students, staff and parents via the P&F. It became clear that encouraging girls to participate in active play during breaks, required options that allowed for more freedom of movement.

To this end, we are introducing knee-length culottes and long pants for the girls, which they can choose to wear instead of the school skirt or summer dress. Girls will also have new shaped blouses that do not require tucking in. All boys’ shirts and girls’ blouses will now have school logos added to them. Thank you, students, for wearing the uniform with pride.

Girls’ Junior Summer Uniform

We are introducing navy culottes along with a new short-sleeved Peter Pan collared blouse that includes navy piping and a logo on the pocket. Girls will wear the winter tab tie if they opt for this uniform. Students can opt for either the existing summer dress or the new alternate uniform. The bucket hat, V-neck jumper and white crew socks remain unchanged.

Girls’ Junior Winter Uniform

We are introducing long navy pants along with a new long-sleeved Peter Pan collared blouse that includes navy piping and a logo on the pocket. Girls will wear the winter tab tie with this uniform. Students can opt for either the existing winter tunic or the new alternate uniform. The tab tie, bomber jacket, stockings or knee-high socks and bucket hat remain unchanged. The V-neck jumper can be worn under the bomber jacket in winter if needed.

Boys’ Junior Winter and Summer Uniform

The boys’ uniform will have a logo added to the pocket of the white shirt. There will be a three-year period where students can still wear shirts without the logo.

Girls’ Years 7-10 Summer Uniform

Navy culottes may be worn with a new short-sleeved Peter Pan collared blouse that includes navy piping and a logo on the pocket. Girls will wear the winter loop tie if they opt for this uniform. Students can opt for either the existing summer dress or the new alternate uniform. The bucket hat or cap, V-neck jumper and white crew socks remain unchanged.

Girls’ Years 7-10 Winter Uniform

New long grey pants will be an alternative to the winter tartan skirt. We are asking students to only wear the grey pants and skirt available from the Midfords Uniform Shop. A new long-sleeved Peter Pan collared blouse with navy piping, a logo on the pocket and a shaped hem that does not require tucking in will replace the current pintuck blouse. Families will have three years to transition into the new shirt. The loop tie, blazer, stockings and bucket hat remain unchanged. The V-neck jumper can be worn under the blazer in winter if needed.

Girls’ Collegiate Uniform

We are introducing a new style of grey long pants and skirt after extensive consultation with the students. We are asking students to only wear the grey pants and skirt available from the Midfords Uniform Shop. We are also introducing a logo on the pocket of the girls’ blouses. Students will have two years to transition to the shirts with the logo.

Boys’ Collegiate Uniforms

We are introducing a logo on the pocket of the boys’ shirts. Students will have two years to transition to the shirts with the logo.

Senior School Sports Uniforms

It has now been more than six years since we replaced the cotton polo sport shirt with the white stripe. These are no longer considered current uniform. Please ensure that your child is wearing one of the newer sports shirts.

VET Uniform

Some of our VET courses have a variation on the uniform for protective purposes. Course teachers will advise students if this is the case. This uniform can only be worn on the days when the subject is studied.
