When Mrs Pearson, our inaugural Head of Junior School retired some years ago, we asked her if she would like to write a school prayer for us. She agreed to our request and wrote a prayer. With the impact of COVID, this prayer was put on the shelf for a few years and this year, our Gospel Heart Culture group decided to breathe new life into this idea. A number of groups, including our Christian Community working group, Executive, School Council and some of our local Anglican ministers, have had input into the prayer.
I was a foundation staff member at my previous school. One of the gifts that was given to us by the founding members of this school was a school prayer. Even many years after having left that school, I still remember the school prayer. The Nowra Anglican College prayer is a gift given by Christian leaders within our school and community, to the students. It is our hope that our young people will remember the school prayer both now and when they leave school, remembering our values and the message of hope through Jesus.
The school prayer includes our three College values; Respect, Compassion and Wisdom and our school motto. This motto, is reflected in our College badge which displays the emblem of the Southern Cross emblazoned on a royal blue sky, our mountains and river, with the motto: “In the light of the cross”.
It is fitting that the new School Prayer was given to our students on Foundation Day.
(NB. Did you know that there is only one Foundation staff member left at NAC. Do you know who it is?)
