Parents & Carers, Collegians, Senior School, Building Learning Power
At Nowra Anglican College our Building Learning Power framework focuses on helping our students become reflective and resourceful learners. We believe the process of learning is learnable.
How do we support your Senior School children to become better learners?
At NAC we provide an environment that helps our students develop these learning attributes. I would like to highlight some of the specific opportunities in the Senior School that will support your children.
Firstly, the Library. Did you know that the Library is open from 8:00 am to 4:30 pm Monday to Thursday and to 3:30 pm on Friday? The after school opening time allows our Senior School students the time to research their assessment tasks, complete their homework and revise their subjects. The experienced and helpful Library staff are available to support each Senior School student during this time.
Friday Lunch
Did you know the Maths department run a Study Club every Friday at lunchtime? All students in the Senior School are welcome to attend. Students are able to access help for upcoming assessments or homework or some students come to challenge themselves with further problems.
Advanced English Study Club Express Tuesday and Wednesday Lunch
Did you know the English staff provide assistance on Tuesdays and Wednesdays at lunchtime? Then the Study Club continues on Wednesdays during sport time in Periods 5 and 6. Students are encouraged to utilise their time well and rather than going home during sport time, perhaps they should consider taking up this opportunity.
Friday Lunch
There are numerous opportunities for our students in Science. Did you know we hold a fortnightly Science club on Fridays – Week A during lunch time. In addition, the following HSC revision classes are held:
- Biology – Thursday during lunch-time
- Chemistry – Monday Mornings from 7.10 am
- Physics – Fridays lunch-time.
These are great ways for students to foster their love of science. All students are welcome to engage with the Senior School Science leaders and teaching staff, completing different experiments and provocations.
Our students studying the Performing Arts subjects are encouraged to participate in the numerous ensembles. Students are given opportunities to perform and improve their musical skills.
Students are able to attend various sessions in the technology and visual arts classrooms to complete their projects and develop their skills further. These include the Make-a-space club and Visual Arts club
There are numerous opportunities for students in this faculty area; in particular, there is a lunch time Personal Interest Project (PIP) club for those students studying Society and Culture and a Modern History Club. Both of these clubs are designed to assist students with major works and essay technique.
These are just some of the opportunities that support our children to become active and confident learners. Parents, please remind your Senior School children to engage with these extra supports. For further information I encourage you to contact the appropriate Heads of Department in each subject.
