Nowra Anglican College is delighted to announce the appointment of Mr Cameron Watt as our School Chaplain by the Archbishop of Sydney Kanishka Raffel.
Cameron Watt commenced at Nowra Anglican College in June 2023 and over the past year has been delivering engaging and thought-provoking Chapel services and Devotions to Senior School students and staff as well as teaching Christian Studies. Cameron was previously the Assistant Chaplain and Year Coordinator, teaching Christian Studies and Studies of Religion at Rouse Hill Anglican College, one of our sister schools.
Cameron obtained a Bachelor of Theology from the Sydney Missionary and Bible College in 2012 and a Masters of Teaching in 2022. Upon completion of his theological studies, Cameron served as Youth and Young Adults Pastor at Kellyville Anglican Church.
Cameron has a wonderful approach towards our young people and at the start of this year encouraged all members of our school community to treat each other with kindness, compassion, humility, gentleness and patience.
Cameron is excited to be given this opportunity and when asked about his vision for the role he said the following:
“My vision as a chaplain is to set an example of compassion and understanding, fostering an inclusive and supportive environment where individuals feel seen, heard, and valued. Guided by Jesus’ own empathy and integrity, I aim to walk alongside others on their spiritual journey, offering comfort, guidance, and encouragement in times of joy and struggle. To offer opportunities for students, staff and the community to gather around the word of God and see His handiwork in all of life. Through meaningful connections and open-hearted dialogue, I aspire to cultivate a community where every person can explore their beliefs, find peace, and discover their unique path towards wholeness and fulfillment."
Cameron has participated fully in the life of the College and he is passionate about sport, musical performance and delivering Christian education in a way that will cause students to think about the message of Jesus. He always seeks ways to be involved in the wider life of the school.
Cameron is married to Rachel, our Head of Junior School, and has four children and two grandchildren. The family has moved into the Shoalhaven and they are enjoying our beautiful region.
Cameron will continue to serve with other members of the Christian Studies team, including our Head of Christian Studies, Mr James Vimpany, Assistant Chaplain, Mrs Debra Baker and Christian Studies teacher, Mrs Jodie Furlong.
We will have an opportunity to formally commission Cameron later this term.
